Spaugh Dameron Tenny loves the holiday season for many reasons. The holidays are full of cheer, gatherings, and time to appreciate the lives of who we surround ourselves with. We love receiving our clients’ cards, which fill our break room with adorable photos of their families.
Angel Tree Giving
One of our favorite traditions in the office is our annual Angel Tree. We provide the children of a family or two with gifts every year. The official Angel Tree program was created by The Salvation Army in 1979 by Majors Charles and Shirley White when they worked with a Lynchburg, Virginia shopping mall to provide clothing and toys for children at Christmastime.
Our firm collected over 50 gifts for the two families we “adopted” last year. You may not believe me if you noticed the tiny tree in the picture. It obviously couldn’t fit all 50 of the gift ornaments, so a little elf replaced them as the team selected their items to shop for. A few of our team members got the chance to hand deliver all of the gifts to the children at their homes.
Mobile Free Pharmacy
During the holiday season, Spaugh Dameron Tenny also volunteers at NC MedAssist, one of our local community partners. NC MedAssist is a nonprofit pharmacy program providing access to lifesaving prescription medications, patient support, advocacy and related services to poor, vulnerable, and uninsured North Carolina residents. The NC organization operates several programs to ensure that no one has to choose between purchasing food and their life saving prescription medications. Our team serves at NC MedAssist’s Mobile Free Pharmacy, where we help distribute free over-the-counter medications to low-income adults and children.
The Mobile Free Pharmacy travels to counties throughout North Carolina. It is truly a rewarding experience to serve at the local Charlotte events. Participants fill out a wish list of over-the-counter medications and our team is responsible for shopping around the well organized medication tables, filling a bag for each participant according to their wish list. The best part is delivering the bag of medication to the participants and exchanging smiles and brief conversation.
SDT’s Holiday Favorites
In addition to our firm traditions of delivering gifts and serving at the Mobile Free Pharmacy, our firm has several personal holiday favorites. If you are looking for reminders of old or new holiday traditions, check out SDT’s favorites. I surveyed the SDT team to find out common traditions and unusual traditions among our team.
Favorite Holiday Movie
The top holiday movie among SDT is Elf, the hilarious story about Buddy the Elf being sent from the North Pole to the U.S to find his identity. Trailing behind the famous Will Ferrell movie are The Grinch and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.
Favorite Holiday Song
Compared to the twelve songs our team chose, the poll showed a wide variety of twenty favorite holiday songs. Silent Night got the most votes, while NSYNC’s Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, O Holy Night, and Falize Navidad were tied for second.
Favorite Holiday Dish
From Thanksgiving to Christmas our team likes to eat! Honey Baked Ham seems to be our favorite. We also chose Mac & Cheese, Thanksgiving stuffing, and sweet potato casserole as close seconds.
Favorite Holiday Tradition
During the holidays Spaugh Dameron Tenny also likes to be around people, while dressed in ugly sweaters or matching pajamas. Our favorite collective tradition is spending time with friends and family picking out Christmas trees, driving around to see Christmas lights, baking, and some of us enjoy eating Chinese food on Christmas Eve.
We encourage you to donate your time or resources to your favorite charity during this time of year so that everyone can create happy traditions.
